Garlin Gilchrist II
Garlin Gilchrist II is an American politician, engineer, entrepreneur, and activist who became Michigan’s 64th Lieutenant Governor in 2019. At the beginning of his career, Gilchrist worked as a software engineer at Microsoft, and served as the National Campaign Director for http://moveon.org in Washington, DC. In July of 2014, he moved back to Detroit and created the Improve Detroit smartphone app that allows residents to report issues for the city to address. When elected, he became the first African American to serve as Lieutenant Governor in Michigan and is currently the chair of a statewide task force examining racial disparities in the COVID-19 pandemic.
