Dyson KN Chee

Age: 18

I live in: Honolulu, HI

College / High School: Homeschool, attending Kapiolani Community College as a dual credit student

Three words to describe myself: Passionate, dedicated, introverted

A quote I love:
"Do or do not, no try there is"

A book I love: The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

A civic superhero I look up to?
My mentor, Lauren Watanabe, and Kim Coco Iwamoto, candidate for my State House district.

Overview of the project they are working on right now that includes the impact the project is making.

Project O.C.E.A.N. is my personal initiative to take on the issue of plastic pollution through both education and activism. Education involves going to schools and community events to encourage people to take on solutions against plastic pollution. Activism builds upon education by encouraging people to partake in systematic solutions such as passing legislation and getting civically engaged.

Why I am excited to join Civics 2030
I am excited to join the Civics 2030 community because it is a collection of like-minded youth who are also striving to better their own local communities, and I believe that we can collaborate together to increase the impacts of our work.

My vision for the future of American democracy
My vision is to normalize participation in American democracy, so that children are introduced to the civic process and students are given meaningful, hands-on experience in the government at an early age.

The kind of superhero I am striving to become
One that strives for excellence, compassion, and aloha while serving the community.
